THESE BARRIERS

I identified Congress as a barrier for progress, because the speed at which bills are passed and the ease at which progressive ideas can be tossed away is dehabilitating for an idea like Universal Healthcare, because slow moving legislation for something so major allows opposition to falsely critique the idea of Universal Healthcare when the real hassle was just the transitioning towards Universal Healthcare. Congressional members are often more worried about the now, what they can change in the present more than being able to lay the groundwork for the future.

This diagram demonstrates lengthy process a bill must go through to get passed. It has to be agreed upon by a lengthy number of individuals and comittees before they even any serious consideration. Yes, the due process is necessary to not hastily make a mistake, but the way that it's structured now prevents any audacious ideas that could very well be great laws, the present structure assures that the status quo remains. The only way to somewhat tip the balance is to fill up the senate with likeminded leaders, which can often be difficult to do with our nation's bipartison leanings
